A little about me. (this will probably seem fairly lame)
I’m currently employed as the Internet Marketing/Emerging Media Manager for a Fortune 500 telecommunications company. I’d love to give you the name however; those with higher pay grades than mine would prefer I don’t , so I won’t.
What do I know about Niche Blogging?
Most of what I know, I learned as I attempted to become an authority blogger in an incredibly over-crowded niche. This particular niche is dominated by companies with very deep pockets and large staffs dedicated to ensuring people like me don’t come along and take over their position.
Additional obstacles I had to overcome
I didn’t start off thinking I was going to build a ‘killer blog”. I’m just really passionate about the subject matter and I hoped that through the site I could find a few others who were equally interested.
Unfortunately, I was faced with a couple of large obstacles right from the start. First, my primary keywords returned over 100,000,000 results and second, the keywords were not in the domain name. I knew it was going to be uphill the entire way but I also knew it would be a great learning experience.
With passion and time it paid off
Fast forward a couple of years.
The site is now a PR8 and in the Alexa Top 100,000. It get’s regular, national media attention and is read by thousands daily. The domain has become a brand and I own it. It’s provided me an opportunity to meet and work with people I could never have imagined being involved with and it propelled me into my current position at work.
Now it would be great if I could tell you I was an overnight success, but that wasn’t the case. Fortunately however; when I took the lessons I learned from that site and began to apply them to others I was able to duplicate similar success in a very short period of time, and that is what this blog is all about.
