Why You Should Never Just Depend On Google Traffic [Episode 40]

Niche Blogging Tips Podcast Episode 40

In Episode 40 of the Niche Blogging Tips Podcast, we discuss some of the dangers of depending too much on Google traffic. Many website owners get the vast majority of their traffic from Google, and while this is certainly good news, it can also be bad news. If something happens to Google, or if Google changes its algorithms in a way that negatively affects your site, you could see a significant drop in traffic. This is why it is important to have a diversified traffic strategy and not depend too heavily on any one source of traffic.  Take a listen to this episode to find out more!

Episode number 40 of the Niche Blogging Tips Podcast, we are discussing why you should never just depend on Google traffic. Never. Stay tuned.

Welcome to the Niche Blogging Tips Podcast where we help you start and grow a successful blog. And now your host, Andre Vaughn.

We put together a resource page for a lot of the things that we don't talk about in our episodes, make sure you check that out as things such as ebooks, audio books, which are for sale. Also, it has things with different affiliate links, that helps us pay the below. So make sure you check this out. It's at nichebloggingtips.com/resources. That's nichebloggingtips.com/resources.

There are so many traffic sources for your blog. And that's why always discuss and talk about how important things like Google Analytics are. Because you want to know what's going on, on your blog, not just Google Analytics, but things like the Search Console, and other tools. Also other the other other free tools that's right there at your fingertips, where you can go check things out, but you should never just depend on Google traffic. It's almost like, I guess online suicide, if you're just dependent on Google traffic, you should never just depend on Google traffic. And I'm gonna tell you why. It's because Google has a complex algorithm. It's very complex. And there's a article that will help you all it's called the history of Google algorithm updates. And it says it actually has a bunch of the different Google, I guess, the different algorithms, because they usually, they usually have a name form. And I'll give you some names right here. And it has it has these detail listed. It'll tell you everything about all of these Florida update, the Big Daddy update, these have these all happened that these algorithm updates happen all at different times. But they were huge, and it affected people's traffic. Jagger update Vince, caffeine listen to the name of the panda I remember that one. Freshness algorithm page layout algorithm, Venus update, Penguin EMD, which is the exact match domain algorithm update paid a hummingbird I remember hummingbird, pigeon, mobile, Gideon, are mobilegeddon like Armageddon mobilegeddon quality updates. RankBrain. I remember that one, Fred, this article. It's funny that the names are funny, but it says below we have compiled a full list of Google algorithm launches, updating and refreshes that have rolled out over a year. So it's gonna change in his algorithm all the time, all the time.

And that's really the main main reason to me why you should never just rely on Google traffic because you're gonna imagine getting 100,000 I'm just throwing a number out Imagine getting 100,000 visitors every month. And you're growing, I don't know what pace but or let's say if you have an established site and you're getting 100 grand every month, it could be a niche site that you're you know, just one of your niche sites and you're just getting 100,000 is not a site that you're really trying to grow a whole lot even though you're adding you might add an article every month, but you're not really trying to grow the site that much but you're getting like 100,000 unique visitors to the site just consistently you've been getting it for two years and you're making you know the website is is bringing in a nice healthy $3,000 per month with you really not doing much but throwing an article up every month and maybe doing some some maintenance and and few other things on this site and you're getting like three grand a month every month.

This is one of your niche sites. And all of a sudden, boom you're getting 50,000 Unique Visitors it just cut your unique visitors now so which in turn is it's going to cut the revenue you're getting for that site, let's say cut it just for the sake of this since we said half let's say cut it to now you make 1500 a month, depending on your situation, regardless of what your situation is that significant. You've lost half the traffic and now you lose and half the revenue and I'm not just saying that, you know we're like I said we're just saying for the for the sake of everything. We're gonna make it simple cut in half and a half But that's pretty huge to lose 50% of not only your traffic, but 50% of your revenue, because of an update change. And all you're doing is Google search engine or for the sake of Google Search, Google search, that's where you're getting the traffic from. That's significant. You have to think about things like that. That's why I always recommend things like Pinterest, just other traffic sources, Pinterest, Reddit, YouTube, maybe you can even do what I'm doing right now, podcasting, there's a lot of different you know, a lot of different ways. Tik Tok a lot of different ways that you can bring in traffic, to your blog or to your blogs, other than Google, because you don't want to depend on you don't want to just depend on one traffic source. Because you never know when one of these updates will cut traffic in half. And it will affect your blog, so much. So you have to, you definitely have to be mindful of that. Also, I was thinking about our I have written down here, you should, you should still aim for Google traffic.

Always aim for Google traffic, optimize your content for it. That's the that's the holy grail because it's free traffic, always optimize. But don't just let that be your only source of traffic. It's kind of its kind of internet suicide, so to speak. If you just depend on one source of traffic, you don't want to do that you always want multiple sources of traffic, always multiple sources, consistent traffic. Because just in case of one of these algorithm things, it can kind of live off or you may not have, you may not lose so much, may not lose so much revenue, you may not lose so much traffic, if you have multiple sources of traffic, other than search, just think about that. Think about that. Now I understand everybody's not going to want to everybody's not gonna want to do YouTube, everyone. Everyone's not comfortable on camera, I get it. Snow proud of my I definitely understand that. But at some point, maybe you have to get over that fear. Not, this is not for everybody. It's not for everyone. No, no doubt about it. You have to get over that fear. I wasn't comfortable. Getting behind this throne example, I wasn't comfortable getting behind this microphone. You all hear me I don't have the best speech. I don't have the best, I don't deliver the best information all the time. A lot of times, I may stutter or flip over my words or, or things like that. But it's just getting over something that I wasn't comfortable doing. It's all about repetition, whatever you do, whether it's blogging, whether it's getting behind a camera, whether it's podcasting, whether it's making Pinterest pins, whether it's getting in tune to your favorite subreddit, on Reddit, or any of these things, tick tock Snapchat, or whatever, whatever traffic source you have, it takes a while, all this stuff takes a while. Just takes time takes time. And it's just takes for you to get a comfort level takes for you to get a get a good comfort level.

But never, ever just depend on Google traffic. No way you always, always, always should be aiming for multiple sources of traffic. Now, I'll throw this out there, find this episode. It's cool to blog, but add something else to it always say add another social media platform to maybe his Facebook for you just add another element of traffic for yourself. So get good at Facebook while you're blogging, start a podcast. There's all these other you know, there's all these other things that can go with your blog. And you can you can have that just in case that that algorithm change because this algorithm changes. This algorithm is changing every month. Every 30 days, Google is doing something with that algorithm, no doubt about it. Now, will it affect you every month know you don't want to hang yourself. You don't want to hang yourself out there to where there comes a time where you get caught, sort of speak, you got cut, you got caught, not expanding, expanding your sources of traffic. Keep that in mind.
